When a flash flood warning is issued for Glenwood Canyon, 1-70 through the canyon will be shut down due to the possibility of mudslides from the Grizzly Creek Fire burn scar. As a result, traffic will be diverted off of I-70 and onto Highway 13 via exit 87 for a detour up through Meeker and Steamboat Springs. This has already occurred several times this year, and has caused an increase in visitors to the Lyon’s Pond rest area.

Citizens are encouraged to be extra vigilant regarding their surroundings when at any rest area. Remember to park in well-lit areas, stay in groups whenever possible and report suspicious activity.
