Power and cell service shutdowns for repairs Tuesday

Unfortunately, your cell signal isn’t quite out of the woods yet! The earlier repair restored service, but it was only a temporary fix.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 11, Holy Cross Energy will need to shut down power near the 310 Fire area in order to replace some damaged power poles. This means that power to the T-Mobile/AT&T cell tower will be down again. Customers with these carriers may experience an outage for a few hours midday. Please be patient while the crews do this much-needed work. There should not be any other power interruptions to customers during this time.

Fire retardant application

We have had some questions about the retardant on the 310 Fire, so we wanted to give you a little more information on how it’s used!

Fire retardant is not used to “put out fire” like water is. Water is great at absorbing heat, but it evaporates quickly. Retardant is used ahead of the fire front and is designed to coat the vegetation to slow the fire down rather than put it out completely. The composition of the retardant interferes with the combustion process. When heated, it promotes charring rather than flaming combustion; therefore, the fuel becomes less likely to ignite and sustain a flame.

For a fire like the 310 Fire, retardant can be particularly valuable when aircraft can establish a retardant line around the fire while ground crews work to reinforce that line with hoselines and fireline construction. It’s essentially giving firefighters time and a better place to engage the fire.
