Location: 3.5 miles southeast of Parachute, CO in Garfield County
Reported: August 6, 2026, at 12:37 p.m.
Current Situation: Containment continues to increase at the northern end of the fire.
Firefighters installed over 3,000 feet of hose to get water to areas on the southwestern flank that engines cannot reach. Today, crews will mop up and work to reinforce and increase containment lines throughout the perimeter of the fire.
Weather: There is a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms in the forecast. Weather will remain hot throughout the week with an increase in relative humidity.
Fire Behavior: The southeast corner of the fire remains active, showing smoldering and creeping behavior in brush-model fuels, with occasional torching and no timber involvement. In the southwest corner, mopping up and securing containment line is ongoing, but fire activity persists with some smoldering and creeping behavior. Activity on the north side of the perimeter is moderated, with only isolated heat sources detected.
Fire Restrictions: Stage 2 Fire Restrictions remain in effect throughout Garfield County, and on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management and the White River National Forest. All open fires are prohibited to help reduce the risk of wildfire ignition and spread.

A temporary flight restriction (TFR) is in effect in the airspace above the fire. Wildfires are always a no-fly zone for unauthorized aircraft, including drones. If you fly, we can’t.
