GARFIELD COUNTY, CO. – On Thursday June 26, 2025 shortly before 3:00 PM, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Brush Fire near Rulison, CO. With the heat and wind conditions the fire quickly spread. Colorado River Fire & Rescue immediately responded, along with several other fire departments and agencies, including Grand Valley Fire and the Northwest Interagency Fire Management Team.Â
Approximately 20-25 houses in the immediate area of the intersection of County Road 309 and County Road 320 were evacuated, with other residents in the area put on pre-evacuation alert. The fire moved east and south from its original point.
Aerial resources were called in to assist with controlling the fire. By 9:00 PM, it was determined that the fire had consumed approximately 375 acres and was 5% contained. Initial reports indicate that one home and one RV were lost in the fire.
Evacuated residents were directed to the Garfield County Fairgrounds in Rifle or the Parachute Rodeo Grounds where they could receive assistance for themselves and any livestock or pets they might have.
Fire personnel remained on site throughout the night along with deputies to control access to the area and escort residents in and out of the evacuated area when requested allowing them to get personal items, take care of pets etc. The evacuation remained in place through the night.
This is a developing incident. The cooler nighttime air and calming of the winds will help with the ongoing fire control operations in the area. More updates will follow today, as further information is acquired and available for release.
